I finished up my power hammer yesterday. She has a 60lb. hammer head and an overall weight of about 1200lbs. My buddy and I tried her out on a 1-1/2" round bar and she ran like a champ!

Way to go Jared!!

Thank you for showing the forge and hammer! Much different than what I'm used to seeing. Is it a spring hammer, or direct drive?

I'm with Joe, I'd like to see more of your set-up!

Here are a few pics of the hammer. It is based off the X1 type hammer on anvilfire.com. The flywheel is a trailer rim with a length of heavy wall pipe welded to it for weight and to act as a pulley surface. The wheel is bolted onto a 2000lb. trailer hub. the ram was a 3x4x20 piece of mild steel that I cut in half and welded back together. that is attached to a 2000lb. trailer leaf spring that is cut in half and bolted to the ram. the anvil base is made up of 4- 20"x6" diameter solid rounds with a 6"x12" diameter top cap all welded together. base plate is a piece of 1/2" that is 24x23" mounted onto some Glu-lam beam scraps. the dies are made from 4140 and heat treated. the guides are based off the old style little giant guides and they work really well. I learned a lot from building this hammer and there is already a 100 pounder in the works!

it wasn't to hard to build although there is a bit of a learning curve to some of the proportions of the toggle arms and the throw length. she runs at 205 BPM. The motor that is on it will be replaced, that is a test motor, she needs a 1725 RPM 2HP motor to get the most out of her. And her name is Susy  Grin

So he can find her easily when he drops her in tall grass.

At least that's why my Grandad painted everything red.  Grin

Ed, we decided on red....well because we thought it would look cool  Grin

D, there is no rubber on the wheel, I used a piece of heavy wall pipe welded to the rim to act as both a flywheel and because that diameter works really well for the speed I wanted the hammer to run with the motor I am using.

My buddy and I got the new motor all hooked up and the hammer runs like a dream! I had an old worn out motor on at first and it just wasn't cutting it so we sprang for a brand new one, totally worth the money. now its time to do some serious work with her and have some fun!
