The count down is on for this years Blade Show, I hope to be taking more knives that I have in the past and as usual find that the final finish work is very slow.

Are any of you planning on attending Blade Show this year?

Chasing the last scratch is what makes knife makers. When you start making knives the last scratch is large enough you could throw a cat through it, after 30 years you may have to look for the last scratch with a microscope, but it will still be there.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the show.  We are driving down on Thursday. It seems to get bigger every year now.
That last scratch always seems to be there, and never goes away for some reason.  I have found if you get it in one place it always has moved.  The only way to overcome it is to put the knife to use and all of a sudden, the knife becomes just exactly what it was supposed to be.

The plans have not become specific yet but I do intend to be there.  Last year I went with a couple of general questions which lead me to Ed (Thank goodness).   This time I believe I will be seeking very specific information from some tool and supply vendors.

I have been working frantically on knives, somehow I had figured that I only had a month to get ready for Blade Show so was getting frantic. Burned out a switch on my Baldor Buffer and was really getting worried. Chris and Jared were in the shop this afternoon and laughed at me being so excited and broke the news that I still had a couple of months to go. I found out  that folks who know how to read calendars and know about dates and months and stuff may be better at planning than I am. :)

I did get a lot done in the last three days!!

Got my field of inquiry narrowed.  I'm ready on that end.    Last year I was just lucky I struck up conversation with Butch and that lead to Ed.   This time I won't be torturing my poor sore feet wandering aimlessly around.   MUCH MUCH more prepared this year.

As a side note: I was up against my deadline for an article for Blade Show. I was about finished reading John Toland's book on Hitler, 1,000 pages about one of the most evil men of  all time. I found I could not even start my article, I could not put 10 words together!

I finally decided I had to get some good thoughts running through my head and picked up one of my more enthusiastic books, read highlighted parts and finally was able to write my article in 20 hours.

It never ceases to amaze me exactly how great an influence our reading material can have on our minds.

Your reading is so impressive, Ed.  I am in awe of the way you budget your time to include serious reading.

As many of you know, I have not watched program TV since Ronald Regan left office. I did watch 2 full super Bowl Games. This makes it east to budget two hours time to reading daily. Sometimes it is much more, sometimes less. You will find information you can use in your knives from many venues, if a book looks interesting read it.

TV has some good information sometimes. But mostly it is gone and I don't remember it for more than the length of the program. Books on the other hand are always with me and I can go answer a question quickly, assuming I can find the book. I wish that I had your talent for understanding what you read Ed. Reading is one of my favorite pass times. I always pick up some books at the show. A year or two ago I got one of Kessler's books and it has been a pleasure to visit his perspective on knife making. The books knife makers write are especially interesting to me and are an inspiration.
